What to expect from BlookGirl Reviews:

I read primarily for entertainment and enjoyment. I am a book blogger because I love reading, and I enjoy sharing my thoughts on recent reads. When I’ve found a particularly good novel, I love to share my enthusiasm for it.

My reviews consist of the thoughts and emotions the novel in question evokes in me; as a result, my reviews are extremely subjective. I do not typically offer a critical or literary analysis of a novel. While I will rave about the aspects I love of each book, I will also mention aspects that bothered me. If these are not the types of reviews you are looking for or prefer to have from a book blogger, there are other book bloggers that do wonderful objective, analytic reviews.

My reviews are also honest. I will not compromise my integrity as a book blogger. I review every novel that I read, so please be aware that this sometimes includes negative reviews. My reviews will be my honest and fair opinion. My reviews include cover art, publication details, a synopsis of the novel*, my personal thoughts about the book and a starred rating. I also post my reviews on GoodReads, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.

*All summaries/synopses are taken from Amazon.com, GoodReads.com, BarnesAndNoble.com, the dust jacket/jacketflap, or the publisher’s website.

I am currently open to review requests from authors, publishers, and publicists. I typically respond to each individual review request; however, if you don’t hear back from me in 72 hours, it’s fair to assume that I am not interested in reviewing the title. I check my spam/junk folders regularly, so please do not email the same request repeatedly.

Please also note that if I do accept your review request, it might take a few weeks for me to read and write the review. If requested, I will give you a reasonable time-frame in which I anticipate being able to read and review your book.

Types of novels accepted:

BlookGirl is mainly a Young Adult literature blog. YA Genres that I especially prefer:

  • paranormal
  • fantasy/sci-fi
  • romance
  • chick lit
  • contemporary fiction
  • historical fiction
  • mysteries/thrillers
  • dystopia

I do not usually accept:

  • nonfiction: autobiographies/biographies/memoirs
  • horror
  • religious fiction

I do accept some Adult literature. I am accepting a limited number of Middle Grade literature. I am currently accepting some self-published novels. I will not read and critique your unpublished novel.

Series: I do not prefer to read a series out of sequence. If you have a review request that is part of a series I have not read, I do ask that you provide a copy of each of its predecessors. This will allow for a more effective review. At this time, I am more likely to accept a series if it is the first or the second novel. Currently I am not inclined to start a series that has several (more than 2) titles previously published.

Digital Copies: Please note that I do accept eBooks for review. My preferred format is EPUB, but I will also accept PDF. I am working with NetGalley and Edelweiss and can receive digital galleys.

Physical Copies: If you’d like to send me a printed copy, please note that you will not receive it back. I accept both Advanced Reading Copies and finished copies. All books I get will either be kept by myself, or given away in a giveaway.

When I accept a novel to review it does not guarantee that the novel will be read, or that a review will be posted in a timely manner. Unfortunately, sometimes life gets in the way.

Novels that I have personally requested will have precedence over all other titles. Second precedence will go to those novels that were accepted via a review request.

How long will it take for a review?: I try to read the review titles that I receive in a timely manner but I do have time constraints. If the book is an ARC, I will review the book in the month surrounding its release date; in most cases before the book is released or shortly after.

Rating System:

  • 5 Stars: Books that I recommend to anyone who will listen; listed as my special favorites.
  • 4 Stars: Books that stimulated me in some way, either by being surprising, unique, or unpredictable. These books may have a thing or two wrong with them, but were very good overall.
  • 3 Stars: These are books that were generally entertaining but that did not blow me away.
  • 2 Stars: Sometimes I had to make myself finish these books. I’ll be honest and fair in my review. Who knows? Just because it wasn’t for me doesn’t mean you won’t like it.
  • 1 Star: This did not pass my “100 Page Rule”. I do not recommend these to my readers, family, friends, or strangers.
  • .5 Star: I want my money and time back.

Interviews/Guest Posts:

I am happy to host authors for an interview or a guest post, either as a stand-alone event, or in participation with a Blog Tour/Blog Hop.

If you are interested in doing an author interview, I do request that a copy of your novel be sent with ample time to read before the questions need to be submitted.

If I am not familiar with your work/with the authors work, I do require the option to read the title before I will agree to an interview or a guest post.

If, upon reciving a book and finding that it is not for me, I reserve the right to rescind my participation in any Blog Tour/Hop.

I do not host freelance writers.

Disclosure: Almost all of the books I currently review are purchased by me; in some cases, they are provided by the publisher or the author, or traded with a friend/family member. I do not accept/receive monetary compensation for my reviews.

All reviews on BlookGirl.com are written by myself, Kathryn Tuccelli, and based solely on my opinion of the novel.
