In My Mailbox (10)

Guess what? It’s rainy, cold, and windy outside!! Why am I excited about that? It means I can shirk off a few responsibilities and stay inside to read all week! 🙂 Seriously, though, who would want to go out in this weather? I had thought to go to the park this weekend and read, but it looks like I’m staying cozy in my bed, with a good cup of coffee and three furry dogs. What am I reading this week? Well, my mailbox is pretty exciting! Here’s what I received: Whew! I think this may be my biggest mailbox yet, though ALL of it is virtual! 🙂 A BIG thank you goes out to Bloomsbury Children’s Books for the NetGalley titles and to the various authors and publishers who so generously donated their titles for review or as part of future Book Tours (with SupaGurl Book Tours). Those are some gorgeous covers, aren’t they? Can’t wait to dive into this pile 🙂 So, what do you think? Are you anticipating any of these titles yourself? Have you already read some of them? What was in your mailbox this week? Be sure to leave some “comment love” below, and I’ll stop by to visit!...

I am so excited to be part of the Tor Teen Blog Tour for THE BOOK OF THE NIGHT, the third and final installment in the Libyrinth Series by Pearl North. Today, you will find a fantastic guest post from Pearl North herself on the importance of libraries in our culture, as well as a generous giveaway of a finished copy of THE BOOK OF THE NIGHT for three lucky readers! Keep reading for all the goodies! Libraries: We Still Need Them! – A Guest Post by Pearl North Thank you for having me on BlookGirl! Do we still need Libraries? Well, obviously, since I wrote a whole trilogy of books centered around a library so vast that people sometimes get lost in it and never come out again, my answer is going to be yes. But let me tell you why that’s my answer. Sure, the internet is a terrific research tool, and it’s much more convenient to search for what we want online, purchase it online, and then download our books to our ereaders and phones and notebook computers.’ Well, we can if we own a computer and an ereader and a phone. And of course, not everyone does. But most libraries do. People with no other access to the internet depend on libraries for free internet access. And not every book is available online or in digital format and...

Waiting on Wednesday: My Chemical Mountain

I have another unique book to present to all of you this week, and it’s one that I’m getting really excited about! It seems that male narrators and main characters are increasing in popularity in YA novels, and it’s a trend that I hope continues. This week’s Waiting on Wednesday pick will debut on June 11, 2013 from Delacorte Books for Young Readers: Rocked by his father’s recent death and his mother’s sudden compulsion to overeat, Jason lashes out by breaking into the abandoned mills and factories that plague his run-down town. Always by his side are his two best friends, Charlie, a fearless thrill junkie, and Cornpup, a geek inventor whose back is covered with cysts. The boys rage against the noxious pollution that suffocates their town and despise those responsible for it; at the same time, they embrace the danger of their industrial wasteland and boast about living on the edge. Then on a night the boys vandalize one of the mills, Jason makes a costly mistake–and unwittingly becomes a catalyst for change. In a town like his, change should be a good thing. There’s only one problem: change is what Jason fears most of all. So, let’s take a look at what we have: a male main character, a dangerous environment, two oddball friends, and hard choices that have the potential to change the future. Sign...

Waiting on Wednesday: Falling to Ash

Happy Wednesday, everyone! Can you believe we’re already in September?! I was at the store the other day and saw Christmas ornaments for sale. I am so not ready to see Christmas decorations out when Houston is still producing near 100-degree days! I hope it’s getting cooler where you are 🙂 Anyway, on to the books! This week’s Waiting on Wednesday pick is due out on September 27, 2012 by Corgi Childrens: You can’t choose your family… living or dead. Trapped between two very different worlds, newly made vampire Moth is struggling to find her place in either. Not only does she have to answer to her strict Irish-Catholic Dad, but her over-protective maker, Theo, is intent on making her the star attraction in his powerful Boston vampire clan. Moth will have to pull off the double-act of the century to please both of them… Adding to her problems is the dangerously attractive Jason Murdoch, a trainee vampire hunter who loves to play cat and mouse in his spare time (Jace = cat; Moth = mouse). But when the teenagers of Boston’s wealthiest families start to disappear, it forces Moth and Jace into an uneasy truce. Will they be able to solve the mystery behind the disappearances—before someone winds up undead? I really like the premise of this one, and while vampire stories have become a bit old in...
