I found my “Waiting on Wednesday” pick by accident about 2 weeks ago, and have been anxiously awaiting its debut ever since. Unfortunately, I still have quite a few months to go, but thankfully I have a few other good books to keep me company till then 🙂 Dear readers, I present to you – Origin by Jessica Khoury, due out in September 4, 2012 from Razorbill (Penguin):
Pia has grown up in a secret laboratory hidden deep in the Amazon rain forest. She was raised by a team of scientists who have created her to be the start of a new immortal race. But on the night of her seventeenth birthday, Pia discovers a hole in the electric fence that surrounds her sterile home–and sneaks outside the compound for the first time in her life.
Free in the jungle, Pia meets Eio, a boy from a nearby village. Together, they embark on a race against time to discover the truth about Pia’s origin–a truth with deadly consequences that will change their lives forever.
I really love the cover for Origin, as well as the short but satisfying blurb. Origin has been described as a “supremely compelling debut novel that blends the awakening romance of Matched with the mystery and jungle conspiracy of Lost.” Since I loved both Matchedand Lost, this book is sure to be great, but it has a LOT to live up to!
What do you think? Does Origin sound like your type of read?
Do comparisons to popular TV shows, movies, or other popular books make you wary of a new title?
What are you “waiting on” this Wednesday?
